Leo Makelky volunteered to fight in the second great war and luckily got a job he had asked for. He grew up dreaming about flying and would finally get the opportunity.

Flying bombing missions over Europe was incredibly dangerous, and the odds said that if you flew enough missions, you were likely to be shot down.

During his tour, the Air Force kept raising the minimum requirement for the amount of sorties flown, but Mekelky’s luck held. He flew over 30 bombing runs over Europe and even received a field commission in the process.
