Chinese researchers have developed a 500 megapixel “Super Camera” that can reportedly identify all faces in crowds of tens of thousands.
The camera was recently unveiled at China’s International Industry Fair and was designed by Fudan University and Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Super Camera is a cloud based facial recognition system that is five times more acute than the human eye and operates by means of real time artificial intelligence that near instantaneously checks target faces against a massive database of citizen photographs.
China is a civil liberties nightmare regarding personal privacy, which is all but non existent. There is an estimated 200 million CCTV cameras watching constantly watching Chinese citizens.
China has even implemented a social credit system, much like a disturbing horror episode of Black Mirror. Citizens may gain or lose social credit by depending on their obedience to the state and public behaviors. The credit can be used towards perks like hotels or getting into better schools, while having a bad social credit standing can get you barred from travel or entering various public facilities. The Super Camera technology will ensure that the Chinese people know they are being watched, always.
