Chinese scientists have created a handheld crowd dispersal device that emits focused waves of sound that causes the victims’ eardrums, eyes, and brains to vibrate excruciatingly.
While sonic weapons have been around for decades, this is the very first portable device ever created. The design is reportedly ready for mass production and delivery to the military and police forces.
A lead researcher for the project describes the device as a tube-shaped vessel that heats inert gas particles that projects a deep vibrating sound. Low frequency sound energy can be intensified and directed at an individual to cause dizziness, headaches, vomiting, bowel spasms, involuntary defecation (the brown note), organ damage and heart attacks.
So far the only image of the device available shows an obscured angle of it sitting on a desk during a Chinese government science panel. Further details, including the device’s range and lastingness are being kept secret.
