According to Ubisoft’s first quarter financial statistics, the company made most of their profit from PC game sales.
Ubisoft games sales were broken down as follows:
PC – 34%
PS4 – 31%
Xbox One – 18%
Mobile – 7%
Nintendo Switch – 5%
Other Sales – 5%
Several factors have certainly played a role in PC titles dominating Ubisoft’s game sales. According to an article on The Gamer, the fact that no major gaming console has been released in recent years is a factor. Tech Radar wonders if PC gamers are more likely to open their wallets for downloadable content.
Then, there’s the games themselves. During the fiscal first quarter, Ubisoft released the title Anno 1800, a real-time strategy game exclusively for PC, which was massively successful.
Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey saw impressive sales on the PC. While The Division 2 continued to be one of the gaming industry’s top selling titles.
Ubisoft will continue to focus on the PC platform as they plan to Launch Uplay Plus in September. Uplay Plus will be a subscription service similar to Origin Access and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, hosting more than 100 Ubisoft titles.
