As part of an International Women’s Day special, the Today show introduced female infantry troops just days before their historic combat deployment.

This deployment by 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division will be the first time female infantry soldiers will deploy into a combat environment. For operational security reasons, details of their scheduled deployment haven’t been released.

The female soldiers from Company C are identified as follows: 1LT Ripley Kafkas, 2LT Courtney Hill, PV2 Janette Vasquez, PV2 Adonia Moment, PV2 Skyler Larson, PV2 Destiny Bennett and PV2 Jaida Hicks.

The Army officially opened combat arms jobs like infantry and armor to women at the end of January 2016. We are now seeing that major shift in policy come to fruition, and we hope they make the grass grow.
